Series: Demon Princess #1

Overall: 5 stars

As if trying to fit in at a new school isn't stressful enough, sixteen-year-old Nikki Donovan just found out that her long-lost father is, in fact, the demon king of the Shadowlands—the world that separates and protects us from the Underworld. When she is brought there by the mysterious—and surprisingly cute—messenger Michael, she learns that her father is dying, and he wants her to assume the throne. To complicate matters, a war is brewing between the Shadowlands and the Underworld, her half-demon qualities are manifesting, and her growing feelings for Michael are completely forbidden. Ruling a kingdom, navigating a secret crush, and still making it home by curfew—what's a teenage demon princess to do?

I will admit, I thought this was going to be more dark because of the whole demon thing, but it turned out to be a light and humorous read, which was okay by me because it was a great book.

Demon Princess: Reign or Shine was such a cute read. The entire story flowed smoothly, making it hard for me to put down. I ended up devouring it in a day. Like all first novels in a series, you have all the introductions and background history, but the way Rowen put it all together made it more interesting and fun to read. There was never a dull moment.

I loved Nikki’s character. She was funny and overall, a very likable character. I had fun reading about all her exciting adventures. Nikki’s best friend, Melinda, had made a statement that has me thinking there could have been some foreshadowing there – if you’ve read this, then you ought to know what I mean. I’m eager to see if there is more to Melinda’s character.

I recommend this book if you want something light, fun, and easy to read. I can’t wait to read the sequel!
