There's something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.

Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price's attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He's the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce--and goes out of his way to make that very clear--she can't let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her.

This was a fantastic story, with a very intriguing and original plot. It was a little slow moving, but there was enough mystery and exciting twists and turns to keep turning the pages. The writing was spectacular. The way Kate describes Sword and Cross, and even some of the events, makes you feel as though your there, seeing the events unfold along side Luce.

The characters were great too. Each character was well-developed and I found myself questioning who some were and whether or not they were good or evil. I can say some characters I was right about, while others had me in shock – wasn’t expecting that.

This was a great start to a new series. I can't wait to read more. The next book, Torment, doesn't come out until September 2010. So far away!
